Storyboards at the speed you think.
Darkboard Prime is a storyboard drawing app that feels like paper. No lag, no clutter. Paint behind your line work with one key, and move through five hundred panels without waiting.
macOS · Wacom Cintiq and other pen displays · Windows coming
Built for one job.
Most drawing apps are made for illustration and stretched to fit boarding. Darkboard Prime starts from the storyboard and leaves out everything else.
Paint behind, one key
Every layer has a line sheet and a paint sheet. Press one key to switch and paint tone under your lines on the same layer. No layer juggling.
No lag
The pen reaches the screen in under a refresh. Panel switches take a few milliseconds, even on a 500-panel board.
A real board
Panels, timing, dialogue, an audio track and playback. Export a movie, images or layered PSDs for editorial.
Never lose a drawing
Autosave within a tenth of a second of every stroke, and crash recovery the next time you open the app.
Made by a story artist.
Darkboard Prime was built by Ricardo Curtis, a story artist and head of story on more than twenty animated features, for his own team. It's free because boarding tools should be.
